Pilot Study On 26 Test Subjects using overnight digital recorders in an isolated in-home test.

Snoring affects 700 million people worldwide from which 130 million people in Europe and 85 million people in the US. This large group is growing rapidly, due to an increase in the obese and elderly population.

Definition of snoring

What is snoring?

The act of respiring through the open mouth so that the currents of inspired and expired air cause a vibration of the uvula and soft palate. The vibration that results gives rise to an extremely irritating sound. Studies in snoring-loudness registered up to 93 dB, a sound intensity comparable to a bar or busy office.

Objective

To evaluate and compare a new anti-snoring device "SNOOZER®" for the treatment of snoring.

Methods

26 test persons aged 26 to 73 (on average 48 years, BMI 27.26) with a snoring problem took part in this pilot study. After having explained how to use the Snoozer®, a recording session took place with the audio data logger for the assessment of snoring in-home. All 26 test persons underwent this recording session overnight without application of any anti-snoring treatment, to determine the base-line and to determine the individual comparison point. The recorder has a dynamic range of 45-90 dB sound pressure level and a frequency range of 30 Hz - 5 kHz. Because snoring intensities often vary significantly throughout the night the recorder can measure continuously over 8 hours. The recorder is portable, battery powered, rugged and produce digital data which are easily and automatically analysed.

Results

Two test persons dropped out early in the study, so treatment results are presented on the remaining 24 test persons. In 86% of the test-group using the Snoozer®, the frequency and the intensity of snoring was significantly reduced. There was also a decrease in the length of the 'snoring sessions' in 91% of this test group. An significant delay in the onset of snoring was measured within the Snoozer test group.
The results of the comparison study between Snoozer® and the other anti-snoring products are graphically explained (see below: graph 1 and graph 2).

Conclusions:

The "Snoozer®" is a new anti-snoring device, that offers consumers an effective and simple to use alternative to treat the effects of snoring. It allows consumers to safely solve snoring issues without any possible side-effect.
